Unlce Pinkus goes to Shreveport

This weekend we drove the six hours to Shreveport to visit the Tates. We got in late Friday night and everyone was still awake!



It is always great to spend time with family especially when it means getting to play. We hung around and played a round of "Pretty, Pretty Princess."



I am sure it's hard to tell who the winner was!



A weekend with O-sen sisters always involves eating and shopping, and Audrey is definitely an O-sen girl! After movie and lunch, we were able to sneak in a bit of shopping and playing along the Bossier Boardwalk.



The visit was much too short and we won't let the drive interfere with our visiting. Family should be together more often.

Finishing "The Bar"

GG's bar has been transformed, but it's still missing something. I had intended on putting bottle caps along the edge of the top, but Charlie has requested that I not because the LOVES the copper. Maybe another color needs to be added or a design or bottle caps along the lime colored frame?

Charlie is so very pleased with his copper "piece". This is the one and only place in the house it is to hang.

We need to have a party and pour some drinks from the bar in front of Charlie's fleur de lis.

Summer Garden

Although our garden is falling victim to weeds and spreading banana trees, the heat has kept me from working on it very much. Being in the yard means having to apply insect repellant hourly to keep the mosquitoes away.

The black-eyed Susans are finally in bloom. I have waited all summer for them to arrive. This year has been a test to see what flourishes in our yard.



The angel trumpet has done well, so we've added a double purple trumpet to the yard. On the shady side of the yard I've transplanted some altheas from Harding Street. Hopefully they will do as well as the one I got at Banting’s.



The fig tree is full of figs but between the lack of rain and the scavenging birds, I don't think we'll eat a single fig. I love the way Senor Hog (Say it with a long o!) looks with his coleus and polka dot plant.



I have taken out about half of the banana trees in the yard but they are relentless! They are all producing fruit. Chuck is especially impressed with one rather large bunch. I on the other hand am frustrated with always hitting my head as I walk by!

Renovation Vacation

When we purchased our home in January we had decided on adding a "master bath". The location would be in the back of the house in what was once a kitchenette when the house was being used as a double. After much planning, Chuck has finally gotten started on the project.

He has had a full nine days away from the lab. The renovation vacation has been productive.



After a mere 50 trips to Home Depot and Lowe's (literally), the drain line is complete for the toilet and he's tapped into the main line for water. He is running the pex water line as I speak. Perhaps the week will bring a flushing toilet to the bathroom. That way I will be oblivious to which band is playing at LeBonTon when I get up to potty in the middle of the night.


Now if I could only convince him to lose that sweatband when he leaves the house...
