Playing Hooky

The first (FINALLY!) 90 degree day was predicted for Wednesday.

Sounded like a perfect beach day.  So Charlie skipped work, what a dad!, and I asked the boys if we should skip school.

Seriously??  Freddie asked with wide eyes.  I could see his excitement but there was also a bit of guilt about playing hooky mixed in his voice as well.  I suppose that's just the quite of response I want as a parent when talking about blowing off responsibilities.

We packed a picnic, loaded up the car, and got into the morning traffic.

It was a long drive out of the city, but worth it.

Definitely a perfect beach day.  And a WEDNESDAY beach day is so much better than a weekend beach day!

Summer Beach Trips

We've had a few beach trips so far this summer.

I think it is safe to say that this is everyone's favorite summer activity.

We stop for donuts on the way...

...dig, lounge, walk, and play in the ocean.

Both boys now love being in the water, letting the waves push them around.  Hans is fearless and wants no one to touch him.

Sitting next to the ocean for the day is a great way to escape from the city.

We're all thankful for these days.

Beach Day

As much as we try to hold on to summer, our beach trips for the year are definitely coming to an end. It's cooler along the coast, and I had to wear my fleece for a good part of the day.

Spending the day in the sand, listening to the boys and the sound of the ocean, is one of my favorite summer pastimes.

We finally found some cheap body boards on a recent trip to Target.  While most of those with their boards were happy for the really rough day with some sizable waves, it wasn't exactly the best day for the boys to get started learning how to use the boards.

They definitely got pummeled by some waves, but they kept at it.  Freddie was pretty impressed with himself for getting taken down by a wave and thrown around and around.

Next trip I'll have to bring my big camera to capture some of their stunts.

Hoping to squeeze in at least one more trip with my beach babes before welcoming fall and cooler temps.

Beach Day

Weekends have been busy with baseball and soccer and the spring was fairly cool so this is our first trip out to the beach this season.  We didn't make it out until around lunchtime because the boys had soccer in the morning but it was the perfect day.

The sun was warm and the breeze was cool.  The Atlantic is freezing, however!  This didn't stop the boys from playing in the water.

Freddie has gotten so brave in the water.  The enjoyed running from the crashing waves and getting knocked down every so often.

There was the usual digging...

And snacking...

And snuggling...

We all love the ocean, and I'm hoping we are able to get in a few more trips in our short summer season.
