Finger Foods

Freddie's told me more than once that he is ready for more solid foods. So this week we are beginning to experiment with finger foods.

He's been getting bits and pieces of most of what we eat, but now in addition to his meals of pureed fruits, veggies, cereal, and oatmeal I am adding in some finger foods. I had been giving him Cheerios here and there, and while he'll pop one in his mouth every once in a while, he's really been using them to get the dogs over to his chair.

On the finger food menu this week:
  • Pancakes
  • Waffles
  • Beans
  • Veggie burger
  • Avocado pieces
  • Sticky rice and cheese
  • Spiral pasta
  • Ravioli
  • Cheese, shredded and small cubes
  • Egg yolks
  • Toast
  • Fish
He had a some of a cereal bar and some pancakes this weekend. He didn't feed these to the dogs as much as he just mashed them between his fingers for careful examination.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Baking Fever

Each of these containers is filled with mini pecan pies. They are about the easiest, yummiest thing to bake.

I've had an unusual desire to bake lately, and I'm not sure why. I am not so fond of cooking and I am doubly not so fond of baking. But there's just something about that finished product that's got me hooked. Thankfully, I am able to take the fruit of my labor to my seminar to share with the teachers who come. Poor Charlie is left at home with only a taste.

Leftover Solution

Day 1:

Rotissere chicken from Sam's club (3 lbs and $5, you can't beat that). Add a starch (usually potatoes) and a salad. Cheap and easy, especially when Sam's is on the way home.

Day 2:

Leftover chicken transformed into a delicious quesadilla, complete with beans, cheese, cilantro from the garden. Add a side of sour cream, pico de gallo, and maybe some spanish rice and we've got a meal!
