Just another Tuesday

Yep, just Tuesday on the subway.  Everyone wearing black, rushing to get somewhere, eyes locked on the ground, ipods plugged in their ears.

We popped out of the subway at Rockafellar Center.  No parades, no costumes, no families pulling the first batch of chicken and sausage off the grill at 9am.  Freddie told the man at Brooks Borthers "Happy Mardi Gras" and rather than getting a "Yeah You Right" the salesman scrunched up his nose and required an explanation.

 The Jefferson City Buzzards were no where to be found on Madison Ave.

The ice skaters at Wollman Rink were circling to Katy Perry.  Where was the Iko Iko blaring from fuzzy speakers?

There weren't any lines for the bathroom.

The seals weren't even decked in purple, green, and gold.

Our hearts were in New Orleans yesterday. 

King's Day

Freddie's godmother made certain there would be cake on King's Day.  And it's a Haydel's kingcake!

I did get a little misty eyed this morning looking over all the facebook status updates about king cake.  Thank goodness for Fairy Godmothers.

 After having our fill we played "Throw me something mister" to kick off the Carnival season. 

Don't worry, only the toddler was running around naked!

That's naturally New Orleans, y'all.  Ain't nothing better.
