We Love the Hornets

Our team's not so hot this year, but they've got time yet to warm up I suppose. We still like going to the games, complete with beers and hot dogs. Tonight we made it in time to meet James Posey before the game and listen to some Trombone Shorty at the pregame festivities. Tonight's celebrity sightings: Kim Kardashian and Deion Sanders. Surely both are in town for tomorrow night's big Saints v. Cowboys game. Reggie Bush better have been at home in bed, resting for tomorrow's game, leaving Ms. Kardashian to find fun in NOLA by herself!

Freddie's First Hornets' Game

Opening night for the Hornets'. Where else would you expect us to be?

The boy must love basketball because he LOVED the Hornets' game. It didn't start until after his bedtime, and he was up far beyond his bedtime but was *happy* all night. We have aisle seats, and just like his mama, he liked watching everyone walk by, checking out their cocktails, dates, shoes. He's quite interested in it all.

Hornets' games are far better than Saints' games because of all the music. Freddie was wiggling and bouncing to the beat for hours. I have taken note and will get the music going at home more often.

We stayed until the 4th quarter, beat the crowd out of the arena, and the Hornets' won. It's going to be a good season for us.

Hornets Fans!

Go Hornets! We have been having fun at the games, which seem to be two to three times a week. Tonight we headed down to a season ticket holder autograph event with James Posey.

There is a "beer garden" each Wednesday that I am unable to indulge in, but have already scoped out the first game I'll be able to wiggle my way in there with a flat (yes, FLAT) belly. But for now, I stick to cotton candy and soda. And all that sugar makes Um Ba-Bay happy.

Loving the Hornets

It was an exciting night with the Hornets beating Cleveland in the home opener. The team looks good and the crowd was excited.

I like our seats on the aisle so I get a good view of everyone walking by...I can check out what they're wearing, see who's with who, and get a good look at what they're eating and drinking! I am a little overstimulated at the basketball games as compared tot he football games because there is so much going on and I think I may talk a little too much for Charlie's liking.

Charlie had some teenagers sitting next to him tonight who asked him to buy them daiquiris. He refused and blamed it on me! "She's a teacher and wouldn't go for that." Old man had to be cool and blame the wife.

Um Ba-bay must be responding to the noise in the stadium because he was very active. But I suppose it could have been the milkshake. Either way he moved all night especially when I was shouting and on my feet.

40 more home games left. Yippee!

A New Season

Thankfully basketball season is on the horizon and we are no longer dependent on the Saints for our weekly sports fix. We're hoping the Hornets get the city behind them and they make our sporting events a bit more exciting.

Tonight we headed downtown to a preseason game. We had a couple of yats behind us with ambitions of being Cajun Commentators, and as entertaining as they were, Charlie promised me he'd put a call in to our account manager to see if these guys would be sitting behind us all season. We may have to find new seats if we have 40+ games of it ahead of us.

UmBaBay was pretty active during tonight's game. I imagine he was cheering for the team, and letting me know he does not want a baby sitter during the months of March and April when we are making it to those final games before the play offs.

Game 7

I learned how to use the timer on my new point and shoot!

We cheered and cursed during Thursday's game, but the Hornets didn't pull it out in San Antonio. So now we have a game 7 in the series tomorrow night in the Arena. Ugh. We love those games but going to a game 7 is cutting it too close, not to mention we are going broke. We spend lots of cash on sporting events!

Unfortunately, if when the Hornets move into the semifinals and finals, I think we'll have to sell off some of our tickets as we have several days out of town over the next few weeks. But, it made me feel better to see that tickets comparable to ours for tomorrow night are posted for sale for $726!!!

You read that correctly, Seven Hundred Twenty Six Dollars! I don't know how many have been sold for that price but that's what they're asking. That would nearly pay for all of our season tickets next year.

But, it is just too exciting of a game to pass up.

The Hornets pulled out another win, 99-94, against the Mavericks. On to Round 2!!!

Playoffs!

Couldn't take down the Jazzfest flag, so we had to take down the City of New Orleans flag to get our Hornets flag flying in time for game 1 of the playoffs.
We donned our jerseys, Charlie has #3 Chris Paul and I have #16 Peja Stojakovic, and headed to the arena.


And I even had a pair of teal and yellow Converse!


Great seats, but I shouldn't get used to them, as next year's season tickets are in the upper deck, "the Big Easy balcony."


The Hornets came back after trailing by 12 at the half and won big. They have trouble beating Dallas at home, so they need these wins in New Orleans.

Game 2 on Tuesday. I hope the city gets behind our team. They deserve it.

Last Game

Tonight was the last game of the regular season, but we have the playoffs to look forward to!


In addition to the Hornets winning the division title, Erin and Charlie figured out their seat locations for next year's season tickets and got some inspiration for next year's Mardi Gras costume.

We had a great time at the game tonight. The Hornets trailed all game, and turned it on right at the end. Exciting.


The halftime show was some underwater escape artist. I think I'd rather have Super Hugo's job...flying though the air to the slam dunk.


But for some reason shouting "cold beer here," and uncapping Budweisers appeals to me too.

Our Other Team

Tonight we made it out to our first Hornets' game of the season. Shame on us that it's taken us so long to get to the Arena this season.

We've been hearing about what a good team we have and how poorly attended the games are. Surprising, as taking a family to see the Saints is unaffordable for most, but at $7 a ticket (upper level, end court) supporting our basketball team seems like a perfect family outing.


It is always fun to go to a game, and I love the fast paced, in your face plays of basketball.

Charlie wasn't much into entertaining my self portraits tonight, so this one was taken with the camera on my lap!


Now we're off to sit down with our calender to pick out some other nights to head out and support our team, as well as share some nachos and beers!

In the Nest

The Hornets' Nest that is....

We headed to game five of six the Hornets are playing here in THEIR city. We always enjoy the games, and find it is a great way to spend Friday night. In addition to the game, we enjoy some beers and stadium food (as if we haven't had enough of that with Mardi Gras).

I read the highlights of some games when they play in Oklahoma City, but for the most part, don't follow them too closely. Hoping they can pull out a spot in the playoffs but doubt they'd make it very far.

I really enjoy the "action" at the basketball games, especially the pageantry as they introduce the team...the arena darkens, the music is blasting, and the players enter the court as the sparks fly.



Hugo, the team mascot, is out and about with the fans. I know he's for the kids, but I like watching him. It makes me want to be a mascot "when I grow up" (other careers in that category inspired by sporting events include referees and beer vendor, but again, that's a whole nother post).



Every time out or break in the game means there is some sort of entertainment, wether it's showing people in the crowd acting a fool, the Honeybees dancing what seems like the same dance to different songs, or Hugo shooting tshirts into the crowd.



Even if you don't catch a tshirt, it's always entertaining to watch people go for them.

We have seats in the end court which, technically, aren't the most ideal spots to view a game. However, as much as I love the game, I am there to see much more that the shooting.



These seats let me get close enough to the court, at a reasonable price, to really appreciate how big these guys are and how physical the game is. Sitting this close I can hear the grunts and see the contact of the players.



Sitting this close, I can also get a good look at our local "celebrities" that sit courtside, most notably Lil Wayne and "Plastic Al". Good ole Al Copeland, the fried chicken king of New Orleans, provides quite a show, always making an entrance once the game has started, with his flock of trashy women and his children, both adult and infant, following behind. Charlie always likes to see what outlandish shirt he'll be wearing, and I usually try to see if his last chemical peel was recent enough that his taut face is still ruddy.

That way, if it's not a good game, there's lots to see!

The Hornets played well tonight, and it was an excellent game. So in addition to Plastic Al, I also got to watch Chris Paul and the other players go basket for basket against Seattle.

They pulled out a 99-98 victory against the Supersonics.
