Freddie was quite excited to get on skis this trip to Vail. He was pumped to be suited up and headed to the mountain. Charlie and I, on the other hand, were worn out getting everyone out the door. Long underwear, fleece, snow suit, boots, hats, mittens, glasses, times two and then someone has to potty and I can't find the camera or the car keys. I'm seriously going to be that mom who pushes my kid to be a swimmer. Speedo and goggles. The simplicity is beautiful.
When we were finally out the door Freddie was bubbly with excitement. He wanted his skis.
He got his boots and walked amazingly well in them.
And off we went to the mountain.
We have been talking about skiing quite a bit, watched videos on youtube of toddler successes and failures on skis, and talked about trying again and again and again.
He was ready. But he was scared. He skated only a few feet forward before he wanted off. No more skiing. He wanted the cheetos in his lunch. And that was it.
It reminded me of him wanting to go down the slide but he just couldn't muster the courage. We held on to the skis to try around the house, and he did talk about his skis (these are MY skis) and wanted to put them on in the house, and we realized that it's going to take some warming up to the idea, like most everything. Unfortunately it's not looking like we're going to be having much snow in NY this winter (Did I just type that?!?!) but I have ordered some little skis for him to call his own and get better acquainted with the idea of skiing. He can put them on with the speedo and goggles that are on order.

I can imagine how much effort it took to get all his gear ordered, packed, then have him suited up and out there with enough time before it is mealtime or naptime... Wow. Exhausted just thinking about it! Ha!
This is interesting b/c we will be planning a trip to CO in the next year or so. I so want my kids to be able to ski with us!! Maybe I should be prepping now!
Cora took to skiing instantly, Luke at 2.5 would only tolerate it for short periods of time. It really helps when there are other little ones for them to watch (if the other little ones are happy). You can practice at home on any sledding hill. That helped but it is exhausting carrying up the hill time and time again. Good luck!
